Give them a call to spend the night, rent a snowmobile or an ATV: 307-752-2444. Bear Lodge Resort is located at 5600 U.S. Highway 14A, one of Wyoming’s Scenic Byways, at Burgess Junction. Check out their website at www.bearlodgeresort.com or email questions to mtnswin@hotmail.com.

The Neuenswander family, who in 1929 began sawing the logs to build the first cabin at Bear Lodge Resort, would not recognize the place. The cabins that they lived in are now tucked behind the main lodge building and rented out as “rustic cabins.”

Though they haven’t been around since the 1930s, Rick and Roberta Young, the current owners of Bear Lodge Resort, are familiar faces on the mountain. Rick retired from the U.S. Air Force and they decided to pursue their dream of owning a mountain lodge in Wyoming. They purchased the property in 1993 and in the past 18 years they have done as much to add to the lodge as the original owners. Most notably, they have expanded the number of hotel rooms from eight to 30, added an indoor pool and hot tub, built a beautiful addition, the Blue Bird Dining Room and Deck, on the main dining room, and constructed the popular duplex condo units.

Currently, motel room rates range from $82.00 - $94.00 per night for single and double occupancy throughout the year. Duplex condo cabins, your home away from home, start at $185.00 per night for single and double occupancy. The many rustic cabins are a popular way to experience the mountain with a roof over your head. Prices range from $36.00 - $59.00 per night and weekly rates are available. Bear Lodge Resort also has numerous RV sites ranging from electric only for $12.50 per night to full sites with water, sewer and electric hook ups for $21.00 per night.

Bear Lodge Resort serves three meals a day, 365 days a year in their Moose Crossing Restaurant. They are well known for their Sunday brunches, special holiday buffets and Big Mike’s pies. When Rick and Roberta purchased the lodge, some employees were part of the package. One of them, Big Mike, has lived at Bear Lodge Resort and treated guests to his famous pies for 20 years. They are glad they kept him!

The lodge is a popular winter destination for snowmobilers from around the country. Many of them ride the mountain on Bear Lodge’s rental fleet of 50 late model Polaris snowmobiles and tell their stories in the Bear’s Den Bar & Lounge in the evening. Rick and his team are responsible for grooming the trails in the Northern Big Horn Mountains. This, in addition to regular riding and visiting with riders, allows them to give current and accurate snow reports.

In the summer time, the lodge is booked almost every weekend with weddings, family reunions and meetings. Watch out for bears and moose! The bears like to wander around the RV sites and the moose frequently graze in the pond – to the delight of amateur photographers. Some things haven’t changed since 1929. The original owners named the property Bear Lodge because there were so many bears around during construction of the cabins and lodge foundation.

Bear Lodge Resort is located in the Bighorn National Forest under permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Equal Opportunity provider.

The history is fascinating here on the mountain. Once you are here you will begin to understand why the Big Horn Mountains were the summer home of many of the Plains Indian Tribes. If you look closely on your hikes you might just see evidence of the past. Step back into prehistoric times as you see petroglyphs and pictographs from the Ancient Ones who passed this way. Take another step back and walk in the tracks of dinosaurs who roamed this area. You might even find one that is waiting to be discovered.

Depending on how long you've been in the area, "oldtimers" will remember our location as the Blue Spruce, and newcomers within the last decade probably remember the spot as the Big Horn Mountain Lodge or The Passage Resort. Rick and Roberta Young purchased the lodge in 2010 and renamed it Elk View Inn.

Our newly completed hotel complex boasts 48 rooms with pillow top king and queen beds, Satellite TV, heat and air conditioning, and private phone lines. Four ADA hotel rooms with roll-in showers are also available. Hotel rooms are available for $99.95 - $109.95 per night for single and double occupancy. The Condo Cabin is popular for larger groups and families who want to enjoy modern convenience in a mountain setting and rents for $250.00 per night. Finally, you can forget about unpacking and stay in our full hook up RV sites with septic, water and electricity for $21.00 per night.

Enjoy more than the comforts of home! Stay connected with Wireless Internet in our common areas. Play in our game room or swim in the beautiful indoor pool and hot tub. Stop in our gift shop and take a piece of the high country home with you. We also carry groceries, snowmobile and ORV permits, fishing licenses, maps, and gasoline.

Visit our full-service Coppermine Restaurant, daily serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. It holds up to 150 people comfortably and a feast for the senses awaits you in the appealing log room. We serve casual and fine cuisine and are well-known for our specialty buffets and elk steaks.

We offer ATV rentals, snowmobile rentals and guided tours. After a long day on the trails, come enjoy the largest and most spacious bar on the mountain.
